New look, new diesel for Patrol ute

NISSAN has finally seen fit for its heavy-duty Patrol Cab Chassis utility to be fitted with the same ZD30-series 3.0-litre intercooled turbo-diesel that powers the Patrol wagon – at no extra cost.

To hit showrooms from October, the re-engined Patrol ute also scores exterior cosmetic updates that bring it in line with the Patrol wagon, including Nissan’s bold 4x4 grille plus a new bonnet, front bumper and headlights.

The common-rail diesel engine replaces the current Patrol ute’s 4.2-litre diesel, and delivers 118kW at 3200rpm and 380Nm of torque from 2000rpm.

Available in entry-level DX (offering either coil or leaf-sprung rear suspension) or more highly specified ST guise, the Patrol ute now offers a 3200kg braked towing capacity – up from the 4.2’s 2500kg.

All Patrol utes continue to come standard with a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. DX leaf-sprung and ST coil-sprung models also score standard twin front airbags, as they have since 2006 in response to fleet customer demand. Australia accounts for 80 per cent or global Patrol ute sales.

Pricing remains unchanged at $49,790 for the DX Leaf, $50,180 for the DX Coil and $52,890 for the ST Coil.
