THE Nissan follows the standard heavy-duty 4WD route by using live axles front and rear, but the adoption of coil springs as the suspension medium with the CG model introduced comfort where there was previously only (in the long-departed MQ) a jarring firmness. The Patrol's all-coil system's location by leading and trailing links ensures controlled behaviour in most circumstances, but no Patrol is ever going to feel as compliant and comfortable as an M-Class Mercedes - or even the latest Mitsubishi Pajero.
