Move over, Tiida, the Pulsar Hatch is back to claim its rightful spot as one of the most popular small-car propositions in Australia.

And, on the surface, the C12-series five-door has plenty going for it, including style and quality - plus badge cache - that its immediate predecessor had no chance of equalling.

But the C-segment is a dynamic place nowadays, so we wonder whether the mid-spec ST-L has what it takes against the Volkswagen Golf, Mazda3, Ford Focus, and Hyundai i30.
