AN EVEN wilder version of the already remarkable Pagani Zonda supercar is being presented at Frankfurt this week.
The Zonda R is an extreme supercar designed for high-speed track work.
It uses a red-hot AMG-sourced 7.3-litre V12 that, in motorsport trim, belts out 560kW and 710Nm. This same engine was used for the mighty Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR racecar.
Pagani claims that only 10 per cent of the R model is shared with the regular Zonda.
The Zonda R has a dramatic carbon-fibre body with a massive rear wing, rear diffuser and even more aggressive nose.
It features a 47mm-longer wheelbase and 50mm-wider track for improved high-speed stability, a rollcage and a rubber fuel tank.
It is also fitted with a new transverse six-speed sequential gearbox.
Pagani said the idea for the R version was raised by an American who already owns three Zondas and wanted something a little more extreme.
As Pagani puts it: “Customers who have ordered the Zonda R will be relieved of almost 1.2 million Euro plus taxes” – which works out to around $A2 million.
