Peugeot launches 207 ‘Le Mans’ limited-edition

PEUGEOT Automobiles Australia has launched a limited-issue “Le Mans Series” version of its 207 compact hatch, which as the name implies carries a number of racing features celebrating the French constructor’s involvement – including a 1-2-3 in 1993 – in the famous 24-hour endurance race.

Priced from $31,990, the 207 Le Mans – 75 of which are being offered in Australia, from a worldwide production run of 2000 – is available in either a black or white exterior colour and comes with racing stripes, unique Peugeot and Le Mans Series decals (including a lion-head figure on the doors), black chrome cornering headlights, 17-inch “Pitlane” multi-spoke alloy wheels, a more aggressive front bumper (including ‘shadow’ aluminium grille), a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust extension, and body colouring for the side mouldings, bumper strips and (electric-folding) wing mirrors.

The cabin includes sports front seats with Alcantara inserts and leather-trimmed and white-stitched bolsters, white-faced instruments, tinted windows, and aluminium highlights on the centre console, dashboard, steering wheel, gearshift, pedals and door sills. Each car is also individually numbered via an alloy insert on the steering wheel.

Other standard equipment includes electronic stability control, dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning, rear-parking sensors, an “athermic” (UV-coated) windscreen and an “RD4” radio with MP3 player.

There is nothing more substantial under the bonnet than an 80kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine, although the oil-burner is a natural inclusion given the current and forthcoming Peugeot Le Mans race cars are diesel-powered.
