PEUGEOT is attempting to lure compact SUV customers with its 308 Touring which mixes French flair, SUV practicality and good fuel economy. The new model, which replaces the 307 Touring, comes at a $2600 premium over the hatch, but is far more practical. An optional third row of seats means the 308 Touring can carry seven people. Five of those can be folded or removed to turn the small French wagon into a comfortable cargo van. Fuel economy as low as 5.3 is available when using the 1.6-litre diesel manual model and there are two petrol engines and a 2.0-litre diesel available. Pricing starts off at $30,590 and runs through to $38,390. Surprisingly, electronic stability control is not standard on the base cars but a panoramic glass sunroof is.
