ALTHOUGH the cargo volume remains at 430 litres, Peugeot says the shape of the luggage area was improved at 1999 facelift time, with the new lid plus changes to interior profiles. The rear parcel shelf was raised 40mm and re-shaped, and retains a storage compartment plus a roll-out sun blind and two radio speakers. The higher boot allows two large suitcases to be stored vertically, while the 406 offers a split-fold rear seat to allow long items to be carried while still providing rear seat accommodation. Two handles in the boot operate the split-fold backrest.
