PSA reveals new EV modular platform

GROUPE PSA has unveiled and started to detail a new electric vehicle modular platform (eVMP) destined to underpin the group’s upcoming electric vehicles as of 2023.

Set to serve as the EV architecture in the C and D-segments, the new platform will be based around battery packs ranging between 60kWh and 100kWh, resulting in claimed ranges of up to 650km on the WLTP cycle with a minimum range of 400km.

A range of different body styles will be developed and released on the platform across two different wheelbases, including everything from sedans and hatches up to SUVs with the key being the platform’s battery packaging.

According to engineers, the entire sub-floor of the platform has been optimised specifically to house the battery packs with up to 50kWh able to be stored per metre of wheelbase.

To keep manufacturing costs and investments as low as possible, PSA says the platform and many of its electrical components are being developed and manufactured in-house with the added bonus of the components complimenting existing projects and products.

Not only will the eVMP underpin various EVs and varying power levels, but it will also be adapted to support hybrid powertrains in select markets.

According to Groupe PSA research and development director Nicolas Morel, the new platform demonstrates the Group’s “ability to innovate”.

“This global platform will make it possible to offer a range of vehicles that are perfectly respectful of the environment, meeting the changing expectations of our customers and guaranteeing driving pleasure and safety on board, values that are the basis of the Group’s reputation today,” he said.

What has not been made clear however is the effect the impending merger with FCA will have on the project if any, however GoAuto has contacted PSA for confirmation.
