THE 911 has an all-new, more compact six-speed manual gearbox and the option of Porsche's Tiptronic S five-speed automatic. The manual's new cable-operated shift mechanism reduces both weight and shift vibration, while a twin-mass flywheel limits gearbox noise. The "fuzzy logic" auto draws on five shift programs - ranging from cruising to sport - based on the driver's demands and the terrain. Manual gear selection is available from buttons on either side of the tiller. Porsche says the auto swaps cogs in 0.2 seconds.
