PURISTS were unsure when Porsche dared to pipe coolant through the flat six in the rump of its iconic 911 Carrera, then the iconic sportscar-maker strapped electric assistance to its steering and now they’ve gone and installed forced induction on the whole range.
As was the case with the first two alleged controversies, the faithful needed to have more faith.
Porsche has decades of experience in the world of turbocharging and you only need to play in a 911 Turbo or a GT2 to get an understanding of just how good they are at making it work.
Insanely quick yet docile when required, the former is a car you could drive every day, then tear a hole in time when required.
So history would suggest it unlikely the brand’s boffins would fettle the mainstream range to its detriment. But that’s no reason not to drive one and make sure.
