Porsche recalls 1459 Cayenne SUVs in Australia

PORSCHE has recalled 1459 of its Cayenne luxury SUVs sold in Australia due to a possible fault with the attachment of the headlights that could cause them to come loose.

The recall campaign appears to affect every second-generation Cayenne diesel, Hybrid, S and Turbo variant sold in Australia since the model was launched in August 2010.

It is part of a global recall of the brand’s top-selling model involving more than 100,000 vehicles.

Porsche Cars Australia public relations manager Paul Ellis told GoAuto there have been no reported cases of loose headlights here.

Mr Ellis said customers have been notified and that an inspection of the headlights and any required remedial work will take an hour to complete.

The recall notice on the ACCC website says: “Detachment of the headlight from the car may result in a crash or pose a hazard to other road users.

“It is possible that the headlight module may not be locked correctly, resulting in the headlight becoming detached from the wing of the car.”Porsche recalled 152 examples of the Panamera sports sedan last year over a potential fault with the front seatbelt mounts.

Sales for the German sportscar specialist are down 15.4 per cent in Australia so far this year, but this is likely to change with the arrival of the all-new 911 range, which was launched last month.

The recently-confirmed Macan compact luxury SUV is expected to push Australian Porsche sales beyond 2000 units per year once it arrives in 2014.
