BY MALCOLM LIVERMORE | 10th Sep 2003

TRUST Renault. It decides to unveil two concept cars at Frankfurt which have the same name but different fundamental applications – the Be Bop SUV and the Be Bop Renault Sport.

Drawing inspiration from both the Ellypse and Koleos concept cars, they are intended to offer exceptional visibility and outstanding aerodynamic efficiency.

Inside the cabin, the Touch Design ergonomic system introduced with the Talisman concept car is further developed.

Despite having more than half their bodywork in common and the same 4040mm length, the two Be Bops also have plenty of differences.

The SUV is an all-wheel drive with a minimum 210mm off the ground and is powered by a 1.6-litre engine, while the Renault Sport is a little hotty with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and rear-hinged doors.

In terms of production significance, what you see at the front end is said to be the face of the next generation Clio due in Europe in 2004.

The SUV is also said to point the the way to the styling of a Clio-based mini-MPV, due in 2005.
