RENAULT has come into the compact SUV market a little late, but the Koleos arrives fully-formed, being based on the tried and proven Nissan X-Trail platform. With little in the way of French quirkiness, it is designed to be a global player. In 2.0-litre diesel-powered four-wheel drive form, Koleos proved to be a comfortable and competent companion on a trip around France, with a strong and economical engine, smooth and compliant ride, well-formed interior and excellent steering. Renault expects it will greatly boost sales in Australia and on this form it deserves to be on the shopping list for people wanting an SUV that stands out from the crowd.
