THE Renault Koleos is a true international effort. This handsome mid-size SUV wears French branding, is designed, developed and built by Samsung in South Korea and is both underpinned and propelled by Japanese technology from Nissan.

It sounds like a match made in heaven: Korean value for money and Japanese reliability wrapped up in a swish-looking European-badged package.

After a fortnight driving the Koleos in two trim levels, we are not sure if the cross-cultural crossover has what it takes to beat its strong competition.
