RENAULT has introduced a more affordable version of its top-performing Megane RS265 hot-hatch with a new entry-level Sport Limited Edition priced from $36,990 drive-away.
The new variant still has the same 195kW/360Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged engine of its more expensive siblings, but chops $5650 (and an additional sum of thousands in on-road charges) from the price of the previous entry-level $42,640 RS265 Cup.
Performance remains the same though with the 0-100km/h sprint covered in 6.0 seconds, and a top speed of 255km/h registered.
However, only 50 examples of the new variant will be arriving in Australia, so you better get in fast. Each are distinguishable from other RS265 versions by gloss black exterior details, smaller 18-inch ‘Silver Tibor’ wheels housing silver Brembo calipers and a unique Pacific Blue paint-job, while the leatherette/cloth seats wear yellow.
In addition to the new more accessible price, the budget version of the hottest Megane introduces fuel-saving idle-stop to the RS265 range, which cuts fuel consumption from 8.2 litres per 100km to 7.5l/100km.
The RS Sport chassis is another Australian first for the RS265 range and provides a slightly softer ride than the more hardcore siblings for those looking for a more comfortable drive.
Its sub-$37,000 price is a limited drive-away deal which lasts until May after which time the RS265 Sport Limited Edition price jumps up $1000 to $37,990 plus on-road costs.
