INDEPENDENT NCAP crash test results show that the Scenic body structure, upon which the heavier, higher RX4 is based, performs better than most other mini-MPVs in both frontal offset and side-impact collisions. Standard equipment across both the passive and active safety areas includes a driver and front passenger airbag, front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags that protect front and rear outboard passengers, traction control, all-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD, and lap-sash seatbelts and headrests for all occupants. Seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters are also provided for outboard occupants, with the front sashes adjustable for height.
