DERIVED from the original 99/900 series Saabs, the 9-3 was never really cutting-edge in terms of design and the car is now aging fast. Although the original conservative approach used with the styling has served it well because it's never become offensive, the 9-3 still looks a little too tall and a little too narrow to really please the eye. But it is at least distinctive. The coupe is arguably the best-looking 9-3 and is served well by its hatchback configuration.
