SAAB was on a minimum budget when refining the 900 model to create the 9-3. The car builds on the basic strengths of the 900 and adds more authority with a bolder grille, while bringing the rear-end into line with the bigger 9-5 model by relocating the licence plate between the tail-lights and re-profiling the panel above the re-shaped bumper.
