LAST year, it was the ‘Jaffa’ – a Mercedes-Benz C63 concept car in eyeball-searing orange – at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, and this year in Melbourne Benz has gone to the other extreme, revealing the ‘Jaffette’ – a Smart ForTwo special edition in the same ‘look-at-me’ Night Orange exterior.
This time, however, the model is for sale, with 15 of the special Smarts destined for Australian buyers at a $2800 premium over the base $19,990 52kW ForTwo Coupe MHD.
The Edition Night Orange makeover includes black 15-inch alloy wheels, black Nappa leather/fabric upholstery with orange racing stripes, Nappa leather three-spoke steering wheel, black exterior rear-vision mirrors and grille, floor mats with orange stitching and front foglights with a ‘titanium’ background.
The package also includes surround-sound audio (normally $390), automatic transmission ($750), electrically heated and adjustable mirrors ($250) and electrically heated seats ($490).
Benz calculates the value of all the extras at $4770, delivering a net value of almost $2000 to buyers.
So far this year, Smart sales are down 51 per cent, with just 96 cars finding homes in Australia in the five months to the end of May.
