THE front brakes have been upgraded on the new Forester with larger 296mm ventilated discs replacing the previous 277mm items. The front discs are fitted with two-piston floating callipers, while the rear brakes employ single piston callipers and 266mm solid discs, both of which are carried over from the previous model. Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) has been added to the standard specification of the Forester's braking system, having not been available on the previous Forester models, even the range-topping GT variant. It is designed to more accurately regulate braking force between the front and rear wheels in an effort to reduce stopping distances and improve braking stability. EBD works in conjunction with the Forester's Bosch 5.3i ABS (anti-lock brakes) system, with both features now standard across the range.
