SUSPENSION revisions made by Subaru on the new Forester are aimed at maintaining the level of rough road driving capability of the previous model while improving the on-road handling, stability and comfort. Suspension geometry and chassis rigidity were reviewed and strengthened to facilitate the improvements. Modifications include stronger front and rear cross members and mountings, ball joint links on the anti-roll bars, the addition of rebound springs to the front and rear struts, a new damping control valve to improve damping characteristics and geometry changes to the rear trailing arms to improve anti-dive/anti-lift performance. Changes have also been made to the front and rear track and front and rear anti-roll bar dimensions, with both track measurements pushed out by 20mm to 1495mm and 1485mm respectively.
The diameter of the front anti-roll bar is up 2mm to 21mm and the rear up 4mm to 17mm. Further integration of suspension parts also produced a 13 per cent weight reduction across the suspension system.
