LONG before ram-raiders and rally drivers brought Subaru into the mainstream car-buying consciousness, the aircraft manufacturer (Fuji Heavy Industries) that dabbled in motor vehicles cut its teeth on tough little 4WD wagons in the 1970s.
Since then its Liberty wagon became a family favourite and the Outback wagon range has found plenty of fans as well, but the demise of the former left a gap in the Japanese brand’s range that has been filled by the arrival of the Levorg.
On offer in three model specs, the Levorg has space for five and gear as well, but don’t read much into the name. It spells out ‘grovel’ backwards but I don’t think Subaru have cause to act in that way towards its customers – although perhaps the suspension engineers may have to do a bit. We sample the mid-range Levorg GT-S to see what all the fuss is about.
