SUZUKI'S Grand Vitara four-door has been joined by a new, slightly smaller two-door version that takes the refinement of its flagship model down to a slightly less expensive area of the small 4WD marketplace. It's well fitted out in most respects, with air-conditioning, remote central locking and power windows all standard, but the lack of standard driver or passenger airbags is unfortunate. The alloy 2.0-litre engine is a strong enough powerplant but somehow fails to sparkle in the new Grand Vitara - in auto form at least. And the ride quality suffers from the short wheelbase.
