Swift gets special

Hot on the heels of the all-new Alto sub-light hatchback, which sets a new Australian price benchmark with a manufacturer’s list price of just $12,490 and is fitted as standard with six airbags, comes a safety pack for the light-sized Swift that also includes six airbags.
Available for an extra $700 over the entry-level Swift’s $16,790 price-tag (plus statutory and dealer delivery costs), the Swift Safety Pack comprises front-side and side curtain airbags to the base model’s standard twin front airbags.
Also powered by a 1.5-litre engine, the Swift S ($18,790) continues to feature six standard airbags, while the flagship Swift Sport ($24,490) also comes with electronic stability control – as does the flagship Alto GLX ($14,490). A four-speed automatic transmission adds $2000 to all prices.
“Vehicle safety is increasingly becoming an important factor in the purchase decisions of customers and the addition of the Swift Safety Pack answers those concerns,” said Suzuki Australia general manager Tony Devers. “For just $700 extra, customers can have the added peace of mind that comes with six airbags.”
The second Swift special-edition available from August 1 is the Swift RE4, which is claimed to offer $5500 of extra features for $18,290 (plus $2000 for the auto) – $1500 more than the base Swift’s price.
The RE4 is said to be inspired by Suzuki’s domination of the Junior World Rally Championship and, on top of the Swift’s standard equipment list, adds new alloy wheels, keyless starting, foglights, climate-control air-conditioning, sports seats with Alcantara trim, side mirror indicators and a rear spoiler.
“The Swift has truly been one of the great automotive success stories in recent years, with its mix of European styling, outstanding driving dynamics and fantastic value for money,” said Mr Devers.
“In spite of a host of new competitors from around the globe, the Swift has cemented itself as one of the benchmark small cars in Australia and is one of the best selling cars in the market.
“Given the sales performance of previous RE versions, customers wanting to take advantage of this outstanding value package are advised to get in early.”
