TOYOTA made improvements on the Camry's power-assisted rack and pinion steering system for the fourth generation in 1997. The rack ratio has been changed and the power assistance characteristics retuned, giving greater ease of parking and increased on-centre feel at highway speeds. The new locally developed and manufactured steering gear has engine-speed sensitive power assistance. Turns lock to lock measure 3.06, while the turning circle is 10.8m.
