More Camry details emerge

TOYOTA'S upcoming Camry and Aurion facelift will address one of the bugbears customers have identified with the fixed audio unit in Toyota's local models by adding Bluetooth connectivity as standard across both ranges and, as standard for all Aurions, an MP3 input, which was already standard across the Camry line-up.

Currently, only the flagship Camry Grande and Aurion Presara come standard with Bluetooth, in conjunction with satellite-navigation.

A reversing camera will also be available across both ranges for the first time, while the entry-level 2009 Aurion AT-X will score standard alloy wheels to match its direct rivals in the Commodore Omega and Ford Falcon XT sedans.

Contrary to our report last week, we have learned that the 2009 Camry, which is already in production and will be followed in August by the 2009 Aurion, will come standard across the range with six airbags – including twin front, front-side and side curtain airbags.

Meantime, the 2009 Camry Ateva (but not the base Altise) will continue to feature foglights, alloys and six airbags as standard.

It remains to be seen, however, if the 2009 Camry and Aurion sedans are upgraded to achieve a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating to match the Australian-made Commodore and Falcon.
