TOYOTA Australia has given its Australian-built Camry Altise a visual boost, adding $4000 of kit inside and out to create the limited-edition Camry RZ.
Priced at $28,490 before on roads, the RZ represents a $2000 premium over the Altise, but comes with a number of additional features.
On the outside it gets 18-inch gloss-black wheels with low-profile tyres and other black highlights including a mesh radiator grille, halogen headlight inserts, exterior mirror casings, boot-lip spoiler and rear-bumper diffuser.
It also gets an Australian-developed sports suspension package, RZ decals on the lower rear door and bootlid, and twin exhausts.
The twin exhaust system helps give the Camry's 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine a 2kW/4Nm performance bump up to 135kW/235Nm, while sipping 7.9 litres per 100km.
The RZ comes in either diamond white or cherry paint, while silver pearl, graphite or eclipse black paint colours come as a $450 option.
On the inside, the RZ gets additional features such as dual-zone climate control, a three-spoke steering wheel, 4.2-inch colour display screen and RZ-branded floor mats.
It also comes with front and rear corner parking sensors, keyless smart entry and smart start.
Like all Camry's the RZ has a five-star safety rating with seven airbags, vehicle stability and traction control, and a reversing camera.
Toyota Australia will only produce 1100 examples of the RZ, to be produced over a period of three months.
It is not the first time Toyota Australia has used the RZ nameplate for limted edition models, with the Corolla and previous Camrys getting the special-edition treatment.
It is offered with Toyota's Service Advantage warranty system.
The Camry continues to dominate sales in the sub-$60,000 medium sedan segment, with 6856 models finding homes in 2016, including 1446 in May.
This is comfortably ahead of year-to-date numbers of competitors such as the Mazda6 (1878), Subaru Liberty (1424), Volkswagen Passat (1371) and Ford Mondeo (1227).
It comes off the back of a strong 2015, when the Camry sold 27,654 units. The next best in its segment was the Mazda6, with a comparatively small 5276.
