SUBARU parent Fuji Heavy Industries and Toyota Motor Corporation announced last week that they will consider developing a petrol-electric hybrid vehicle for Subaru based on Toyota’s hybrid system.
The two Japanese auto-makers also said that Toyota would build its Camry at Fuji Heavy’s plant in Indiana, US, utilising some of the capacity that resulted from the withdrawal of Fuji’s former joint-venture partner Isuzu Motors.
Toyota became Fuji Heavy Industries' major shareholder – holding an 8.7 per cent stake – when Fuji dissolved its capital alliance with General Motors last October.
