A FIVE-SPEED manual is the sole transmission available on Sportivo models. It has tall ratios for fourth and fifth gear, which Toyota claims suit the torque of both the 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engines. The final drive ratio in the 1.5-litre models is 3.526. The clutch is hydraulically operated and has a 212mm diameter and a facing area of 199 square cm. The hydraulic control system for the clutch has an integrated reservoir tank and master cylinder to save weight and under-bonnet space. A four-speed automatic transmission with lock-up torque converter is available as an option on non-Sportivo Echo models.
