PACKAGING is the standout feature of the Echo. Not only does the car have design flair, European cache, good levels of quality and comfort, the wonderful seating versatility (the rear seat slides, splits, folds and tumbles) and storage options make it a leader in the compact class. It wasn't the first to offer a rear seat slide function - the Mazda 121 Metro has had it for some time - but Toyota introduced a level of style as well. A word on the engine, too. While the 1.3 is smooth, strong for its size and frugal on fuel, the 1.5 increases performance appreciably. Price is still the one crippling factor with Echo - and no more evident than in the new Sportivo models.
