THE predominantly steel, LandCruiser 75 Series dash has stepped up into the 78 Series almost unchanged except for minor improvements such as a lockable glove compartment. In many respects the interior of the LandCruiser workhorse has remained in a time warp, while Toyota's main competitor Nissan has continued to introduce greater levels of creature comfort to its GQ and GU Patrol models - making them similar in features and styling to the Patrol wagon. The instrument panel is compact and well laid out with twin fuel tank gauges on the left, alternator and temperature on the right and large diameter tachometer and speedometer in the centre. The digital odometer with trip function sits below the analogue instruments and is surrounded by a strip of warning lamps. The lamps illuminate at "ignition on" as a pre-check and cover all critical engine functions including fuel filter and timing belt.
