HYUNDAI S 2D COUPE (1991-1996)
THE S-Coupe looks good but does not quite match the overall refinement of its rivals. Performance from the 1.5-litre, 68kW engine can only be called adequate. To many people, the S-Coupe’s appeal is value for money.

FORD LASER 3D HATCHBACK (1994-1996)
THE Lynx stands out from the crowd with its radical rear end styling and three-spoke alloy wheels. Anti-lock brakes and twin airbags are standard with better than average rear seat space and a refined 1.8-litre engine.

NISSAN NX 2D COUPE (1991-1996)
NISSAN NX Coupe has two-plus-two accommodation and a distinctive targa top with removable glass panels. The all aluminium, 2.0- litre engine has 105kW which gives the NX comparable performance to the Honda CRX.

HONDA CRX 2D COUPE (1987-1998)
THE original CRX is still one of the best looking coupes and its performance and handling remain competitive. Although it only carries two people, there is plenty of room for luggage behind the seats. The steeply raked glass makes air-conditioning essential.
