Sydney show: Eos it is for Volkswagen

BY MARTON PETTENDY | 27th Oct 2006

VOLKSWAGEN reserved all of its Sydney show limelight for its forthcoming Eos coupe-convertible, which made its Australian debut yesterday ahead of its official release around March next year.

As such, no pricing details were forthcoming from Volkswagen, which says it will position the Golf cabriolet successor just as aggressively as its Polo, Golf and Passat models are against their rivals.

Presumably that means Eos will be less expensive than both Ford’s Focus CC and Holden’s Astra TwinTop, which opens its account at under $45,000 from December.

Two engine options will be available, with both the 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel and 2.0-litre TFSI turbo petrol powerplants borrowed from Golf (and Audi).

Revealed at last year’s Frankfurt motor show, the Eos is claimed to be the world’s first four-seater with a five-section folding roof – and a sliding glass sunroof.
