VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) could soon be teaching its customers the three Rs.
It already has the R32 Golf, but the company is now also looking at R versions of the Passat and Touareg SUV.
VGA managing director Jutta Dierks has told GoAuto the company is looking closely at both performance models.
“We are looking at expanding that R-line,” she said. “We have the R32, which is a nice addition to our range. There is the Passat R36 available which could fit our market. And now there is the R Touareg. We will look at both of these,” Ms Dierks said.
The R36 Passat, which is already available as both a sedan and wagon in Europe, is powered by a 225kW 3.6-litre direct-injection FSI V6, mated to a six-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen is still working on the R50 Touareg and it is not yet clear which engine will power that car - although a potent turbo-diesel is the most likely contender.
