Volkswagen boosts Passat diesel

The 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine fitted to the Passat sedan, wagon, high-riding Passat Alltrack and swoopy CC get a 5kW boost from 125kW to 130kW as well as a 30Nm lift in torque to 380Nm.
Despite the increased power, fuel use for the Passat diesel range falls with the Passat wagon and CC recording figures of 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres, 0.3L/100km less than the previous version.
The Passat sedan’s figures have had a modest drop of 0.1L to 5.6L/100km.
Variants in the Passat range that were designated 125TDI will now be known as the 130TDI.
A modest $500 price rise applies to the Passat sedan, wagon and CC, while the Alltrack that went on sale in October last year maintains its $47,790 launch price.
The current-generation Passat launched in April 2011 and was the sixth best-selling mid-size car in Australia last year, shifting 4362 units.
Sales have slowed this year with a 48.2 per cent drop in the first two months of the year, despite the addition of the Alltrack model late last year.
