Volkswagen lobs mid-range T-Cross CityLife

VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has bolstered its local T-Cross line-up with the addition of the new CityLife variant, a special-edition offering limited to just 1000 units nationally.

Priced from $30,390 plus on-road costs, the CityLife fills the gap in price and spec between the entry-level Life ($28,390) and flagship Style ($31,390).

For the extra $2000 premium over the Life, the CityLife adds a heap of extra visual flair and standard equipment including foldable gloss door mirrors, upgraded alloy wheels, CityLife tailgate badge, ‘Transition’ black-grey dashboard decor, black or bamboo themed upholstery, tinted rear windows, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, comfort sport front seats, blind spot detection and rear traffic alert.

Those wanting even more gear meanwhile can opt for the $1900 sound and vision package which adds a digital instrument cluster, VGA’s Discover Media navigation system, wireless app-connect and a Beats premium audio system.

Under the bonnet resides the same turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as the rest of the T-Cross range, still developing 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels via the familiar seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The T-Cross has been a solid seller for VGA ever since it arrived Down Under in May last year and that trend has continued in 2021 with the Polo-based high-rider proving to be the third-most popular offering within the light SUV segment, chalking up 1057 sales through January and February, earning it a solid 13.6 per cent slice of the action.

For reference, that means it outsold more mainstream offerings like the Ford Puma (441/5.7%), Hyundai Venue (810/10.4%) and the Nissan Juke (525/6.8%), beaten only by the all-conquering Mazda CX-3 (2723/35.0%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (1194/15.4%).
