Volkswagen expands T-Roc range with 110TSI Style
VOLKSWAGEN will lower the entry point to its Golf-based T-Roc small SUV range in Australia to $33,990 plus on-road costs when it introduces the 110TSI Style variant in November.
The German brand claims the new variant will plug the gap between the top end of the smaller Polo-based T-Cross – set at $30,990 plus on-roads for the 85TSI Style – and the more potent, all-wheel-drive T-Roc 140TSI Sport, which has a bigger 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and currently opens the range at $40,490.
The incoming T-Roc 110TSI is front-drive only and powered by a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine developing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque.
It combines with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard and offers an official combined-cycle fuel economy rating of 6.2 litres per 100km, according to VW.
The T-Cross, on the other hand, has an 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo that drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Volkswagen Group Australia director of customer experience and marketing Jason Bradshaw described the new T-Roc opener as “the major variant we’ve been awaiting to complete our SUV showroom”.
“Because such a competitive price has been secured for the T-Roc Style, it takes the place originally envisaged for the proposed four-cylinder version of the T-Cross,” he said.
“The T-Roc Style is also an alternative to the more traditionally designed the Tiguan 110TSI – Trendline and Comfortline – so Volkswagen has provided more choice for customers without unnecessary showroom duplication.”
Standard equipment on the T-Roc 110TSI Style will run to 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a rearview camera, LED headlights with light assist, LED tail-lights and chrome roof rails.
Other headline features will include dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-folding mirrors, LED interior ambient lighting, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Comfort front seats, and an electronic park brake.
Among the standard active safety systems will be front assist with city emergency brake and pedestrian monitoring, lane assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert.
Two optional packages will also be available, one based around added tech and the other adding a few extra luxury-based goodies.
The $2000 ‘Sound and Vision’ package adds a digital cockpit, Discover Media navigation system and a premium Beats sound system, while the $3800 ‘Luxury’ package adds Vienna leather-appointed upholstery, heated front seats, panoramic electric glass sunroof and an electric tailgate.
Seven colours will be available on the Style with the choice of either white or red included as standard. Yellow, blue, orange, silver and grey – all metallic – will be available for an extra $600.
