Holden and Toyota’s government-forced “marriage” saw the former switch to the latter’s sixth generation Corolla.
Called Nova, the Holden’s distinct nose could not sniff out many buyers, but it was still frugal, comfortable, reliable and modern.
Like its Toyota twin, a durable 67kW 1.6L twin-cam made up the bulk of sales (in SL/X and SL/E guises), although there was a basic 60kW 1.4 SL too. A three-speed auto was also offered.
Like the preceding Astra, both sedan and hatchback model Novas appeared.
