A new extra-luxury Caprice model, no more base Custom, a chunkier and glitzier grille, smaller tail-lights and a revised interior were the HJ Statesman’s hallmarks.
Air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, central locking, leather upholstery, a digital clock and courtesy lights galore made up the Caprice.
Holden improved the ride and handling properties somewhat, but the Statesman was still no driver’s car.
The only driveline on offer was the 177kW (gross) 5.0-litre V8 married to a three-speed automatic transmission.
