Holden ditched the Colorado 7 name for the global Trailblazer moniker for its heavily updated large seven-seat SUV contender in 2016 to try and differentiate the off-roader and the ute on which it was based.

The Trailblazer ushered in a new front-end design giving it a more premium look but it was the changes under the skin that had the biggest impact.

Holden engineers worked with the GM homeroom in Brazil on improving the steering setup and on introducing measures to drastically improve noise, vibration and harshness levels as well as ride quality. And the measures worked a treat.

Elsewhere Holden introduce a suite of new active safety tech on the top-spec LTZ, while it and the base LT gained new connectivity features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 147kW/500Nm 2.8-litre Duramax four-cylinder Euro 5 turbo-diesel engine carried on essentially unchanged, but fuel economy improved from 9.2 to 8.6 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
