Jaguar finally launched its first ever SUV in mid-2016, with the F-Pace coming in as a rival for high-riding BMWs, Audis, Mercedes and Porsches, but with a difference.

Based on the same aluminium architecture as the XE and second-gen XF sedans, the F-Pace carried the Jaguar design language – created by Ian Callum – as seen on the two sedans as well as the F-Type sportscar.

Two diesel engines were offered including an Ingenuim 132kW/430Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit and a beefier 3.0-litre Ford-sourced 221kW/700Nm V6, while the 3.0-litre supercharged petrol engine from the F-Type was offered in two states of tune – 250kW or 280kW, both delivering 450Nm.

All engines were paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and each variant came standard with four-wheel drive.

It had ground clearance of 213mm, weighed between 1775-1884kg and offered 508 litres of cargo volume with all seats in place, rising to 1688 litres with the second row folded down.

Depending on the powertrain, Jaguar offered a number of specification levels including Prestige, R-Sport, Portfolio, S and for the first year of production, S First Edition.
