Jaguar took a big leap in 2015 by returning to the premium small-to-mid-size segment and daring to take on the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 with its all-new XE.

Based on new aluminium architecture shared with the second-generation XF, the XE was offered with a number of powertrains, starting with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit delivering 147kW/280Nm, with fuel economy of 7.5L/100km.

The more powerful 177kW/340Nm 2.0-litre petrol unit sipped 7.5L/100km, while the Ingenium 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel produced 132kW/430Nm and drank just 4.2/100km. The performance flagship S used a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 – lifted from the F-Type sportscar – pumping out 250kW/450Nm and capable of reaching 100km/h from standstill in just 5.1s. It fuel consumption is 8.1L/100km. Prestige, R-Sport, Portfolio and S specification grades were on offer, with standard gear in the Prestige including the InControl infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, power folding external mirrors with auto dimming, keyless entry and start, bi-Xenon headlights, idle-stop, 18-inch alloy wheels, 11-speaker Meridian sound system, leather-facing seats with electric adjustment, a memory for exterior mirrors, steering column and driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control.
