Proton launched its budget-focused Exora seven-seater in late 2013 and it was the cheapest people-mover on the Australian market at the time.

It was powered by a spritzy 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine 103kW/205Nm matched with a six-speed CVT that helped the Exora dash from zero to 100km/h in 11.3 seconds and fuel use of 8.3 litres per 100km.

The Exora received a four-star ANCAP crash safety rating and carried standard features in base GX guise including air-conditioning, power windows, sliding seats in the second row, 12V socket, cupholders in each row, while top-spec GXL gained leather upholstery and trim, cruise control, a rear spoiler and a luggage net.
