Mitsubishi adds value to ASX listing

Pricing remains the same for the updated four-model range, kicking off from $24,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level, petrol-engined front-wheel-drive LS fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox, however the range includes several equipment upgrades.
The Aspire nameplate used on the more premium ASXs has made way for the “XLS” badge, while a more upmarket front-drive version of the soft-roader priced from $33,490 before on-road costs has fallen from the model mix.
While details on what engineering changes were made to the facelifted ASX remain scant, it is believed that tweaks to bushes, dampers and spring rates have helped improved ride and handling, while extra sound dampening and a new wheel and tyre package help reduce noise, vibration and harshness over the old model.
Mitsubishi said the ASX’s steering had also been improved to enhance feel.
The mid-life refresh for the ASX, which follows on from a mild upgrade introduced in September last year, adds daytime running lights, different-look 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails that now extend to the base model, brake lights that flash if the SUV senses a sudden stop, tinted windows behind the B-pillar, and a range of chrome exterior and interior highlights.
Meanwhile, 2.0-litre petrol ASX models with CVT automatic transmission benefit from performance upgrades that include a more responsive acceleration feel from a standing start and at mid-range speeds, and fuel economy improvements of about four percent to 7.4 litres per 100km compared with the previous car’s 7.7L/100km.
The changes to the ASX come months after a model cull and equipment upgrade to the SUV’s showroom line-up in September last year that included sensors linked to a reversing camera displayed on a 6.1-inch screen, 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, and improved rear-seat comfort with a new-shaped cushion.
The Japanese car-maker also cut $1000 from the price of the ASX at the time.
