Haval prices full-time Jolion range from $25,490 d/a
LITTLE more than a month after it revealed the pricing for the initial batch of Launch Editions, Haval has announced the driveaway pricing of its full-time, three-variant Jolion line-up from $25,490 for the entry-level Premium.
Haval says the mainstream range can be distinguished from the preceding Launch Editions by their mesh radiator grille.
“Aside from the addition of the new range-opening Premium grade, this is the only other difference from these initial LE models,” the brand said in a statement.
Underpinned by Haval’s new ‘global lightweight modular platform’, the Jolion will compete in the increasingly popular sub-$40,000 small SUV segment against established favourites like the Mitsubishi ASX, Hyundai Kona and MG ZS with the Chinese brand pinning its hopes on the Jolion’s appeal as a value proposition.
In exchange for the $25,490 pricetag, Premium buyers score 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, paddle shifters, and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a reversing camera.
Other features include rear parking sensors, fabric seats, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, adaptive cruise control and a camera-based driver fatigue monitoring system.
Stepping up to the mid-range Lux brings with it a $2500 price premium but nets buyers LED headlamps, daytime running lights and foglights, a leather steering wheel, heated Comfort-Tek seats, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch LCD driver’s display, a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a surround-view monitor.
Priced another $3000 upstream again lays the flagship Ultra ($30,990) which builds on the Lux’s standard kit list with bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charging and a head-up display.
All Jolions are powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing 110kW/210Nm with drive being sent to the front wheels only by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It is a similar story with the standard safety gear with all variants scoring autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
As is quickly becoming the industry standard, Haval is backing the Jolion with GWM’s seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
It remains to be seen how well the Haval does against the aforementioned favourites on the sales charts with its predecessor, the H2, chalking up a modest 1413 sales through the first four months of the year, earning it a 3.2 per cent segment share.
By comparison, the segment-leading Mitsubishi ASX notched up 5630 sales, gifting the triple-diamond brand a 12.9 per cent share, just edging out the MG ZS (5415/12.4%) and Hyundai Kona (5405/12.4%).
