JEEP will introduce four new all-electric 4xe models by 2025, promising adventurers “zero emission freedom”, in hopes to “become the leading electrified SUV brand”.
The brand announced its electric plans at its Jeep 4xe Day event, alongside a future-focused promotional video that looks at where the brand started and where it’s heading.
Four new electric vehicles will be available by 2025 for North America and Europe, as part of the car-maker’s sustainable transformation plan, but it only teased three of those models at the event.
The three EVs showcased are the off-road focused Recon, premium large-SUV Wagoneer S, and the one we are most likely to see first, the compact-SUV Avenger set for Europe early next year.
“Today’s news from Jeep brand is yet another example of how our American brands are transforming themselves to support our aggressive decarbonization plans,” said Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares.
“Across our portfolio of 14 beloved brands we are offering exhilarating electrified products as we push to launch an additional 28 all-new battery electric vehicles through 2024.
“We’re confident that our upcoming launches will thrill our customers and keep them loving the great American brands they’ve grown up with,” he said.
Powertrain details have not yet been confirmed, but given heavy investment from Jeep’s mother company Stellantis, it’s likely to be shared with other brands.
Stellantis announced at EV Day in 2021 that it plans to invest more than €30 billion ($A44.2b) between 2021 and 2025 in electrification and software development.
The Group has also announced bold plans for 100 per cent of its passenger car sales in Europe to be BEVs, and 50 per cent of its passenger car and light-duty truck sales in the US to be BEVs, by 2030.
This will be achieved by offering “more than 75 BEVs and reach global annual BEV sales of five million vehicles by 2030,” Stellantis said in its official statement.
“It is our ethical responsibility to ensure a sustainable future of mobility for our customers, our employees, and our planet,” said Mr Tavares.
“Jeep’s global SUV electrification offensive fits today’s market demands and we’re eager to lead the way the world moves.”
The electric models will build on the existing success of Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe and recently introduced Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV models, which have seen strong sales in the US.
Stellantis aims to achieve a carbon net zero objective by 2038, as it pushes to electrify its stable of brands.
Chrysler also announced an EV by 2025 and a complete vehicle line-up by 2028, which while not confirmed, may be related to the Chrysler Airflow concept showcased in 2020.
Dodge also recently shared its electric ambitions, revealing the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT, an electric reimagination of a silent muscle car.
Another Stellantis player, Ram, is also set to share its ‘Ram Revolution EV’ announcement in November, promising to “push past what customers expect”.
