PORSCHE has unveiled a comprehensively overhauled Panamera sports sedan, the more powerful and more stylish model available to order now and due in Australian dealerships from the first quarter of 2024 in both petrol and plug-in hybrid configurations.
Priced from $227,000 plus on-road costs in petrol form, the Porsche Panamera is some $21,500 dearer than before. However, the Turbo E-Hybrid model decreases in price, now starting $29,900 less than before at $402,300 + ORC.
The 2024 Porsche Panamera is expected to be the final update to offer petrol and petrol-electric power with an all-electric model due before the end of the decade.
Initially, Porsche Australia will offer just two model variants of its updated Panamera – a rear-wheel drive V6 twin-turbo and an all-wheel drive V8 twin-turbo plug-in hybrid – a significant decrease on the 15-variant outgoing range.
Overseas reports say there will be no follow-up to the Sport Turismo wagon variant either.
The body of the heavily revised 2024 model range measures 5052mm in length (+3mm), 1937mm in width (unchanged), and 1423mm in height (unchanged).
Australian delivered petrol models will be powered by an upgraded 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol unit producing 260kW (+17kW) and 500Nm (+50Nm) which Porsche says will accelerate the Panamera from standstill to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds (-0.2 seconds). Top speed is listed at 272km/h.
The plug-in hybrid Turbo E-Hybrid variant meanwhile combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol unit with a 140kW electric drive motor and 25.9kWh (+11.6kWh) battery pack to deliver a combined output of 500kW (-15kW) and 930Nm (+60Nm). Porsche lists a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds (unchanged) and a v-max of 315km/h (unchanged).
Charging times for the PHEV’s battery is two hours and 39 minutes when coupled to an 11kW AC charger.
Both Panamera options transfer power to the wheels via Porsche’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Suspension is a two-valve, two-chamber adaptive air system that is claimed to deliver handling and comfort benefits above those of the outgoing model range. Optionally, the Panamera may be fitted with Porsche Active Ride suspension which offers an even more dynamic ride.
Design wise, the 2024 Porsche Panamera is characterised by new front and rear bumpers, an additional front air inlet, new LED lighting – with head-definition matrix headlights available – and, on Turbo E-Hybrid models, colour-coded bumper inlays, dark bronze exhaust tips, and Turbonite-coloured badging and side-glass framing.
Inside, the Taycan-inspired cabin features three displays for instrumentation, infotainment and front-passenger infotainment (in addition to driver head-up display), while many of the previous-generation’s hard switches have been replaced by touch-sensitive controls. The ventilation outlets are now electronically adjustable with the Panamera offering quad-zone climate control.
Further, the gearshift has been relocated from the centre console to the side of the steering column.
