BMW prices next-gen X3 from $84,500

BMW Australia has announced pricing for its incoming next-generation X3 SUV ahead of the medium segment SUV’s arrival in local showrooms at the beginning of next year (2025).

Priced from $84,500 plus on-road costs – an increase of $1400 over the current offering – the BMW X3 will continue to rival the likes of the Audi Q4, Lexus NX, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class with two variants at launch – the X3 20 xDrive (formerly the sDrive 20i) and the X3 M50 xDrive (taking over from the M40i xDrive).

Importantly, the entry-grade X3 20 xDrive adds an all-wheel drive chassis configuration and mild hybrid driveline technology to the range, combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 48-volt technology to deliver 140kW of power (+5kW) and 310Nm of torque (+10Nm).

From there, the X3 range steps up a whopping $42,400 to the M50 xDrive (from $126,900 + ORC). With its 3.0-litre turbocharged straight six-cylinder petrol, the sporty variant develops 293kW of power (+8kW) and 580Nm of torque (+80Nm) to set an improved 0-100km/h standard of 4.6 seconds (-0.2 seconds).

Expectedly, the fourth generation (G45 series) X3 brings refreshed styling, technological updates and improved driving dynamics to the line-up.

It is both longer (+47mm to 4755mm) and wider (+29mm to 1920mm) than before, while riding on a longer wheelbase (+1mm to 2865mm). The model is however shorter in height, now 1660mm (-16mm).

The changes are said to bestow the X3 with a more appealing and sportier design which is further enhanced by an increased wheel track front and rear, enabling more confident handling.

Equipment highlights for the entry model include 19-inch alloy wheels, acoustic glazing, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive damping, automatic tailgate, BMW Iconic Glow illuminated kidney grille, electric seat adjustment and heating (front), head-up display, keyless entry and ignition, M headliner in anthracite, M Sport package, M Sport leather steering wheel, three-zone climate control, and Veganza synthetic leather upholstery.

Infotainment equipment includes dual 14.9- and 12.3-inch displays, a six-speaker/100-watt audio system featuring digital radio (DAB+) reception, BMW Digital Premium (90-day introductory subscription), BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, remote software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and wireless device charging.

On the safety front we find standard inclusions such as adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality, blind spot monitoring, lane control, parking assistant with 360-degree camera system and tyre pressure monitoring.

In addition to the uptick in mechanical performance, the athletic M50 xDrive adds 21-inch alloys, quad exhaust outlets, a panoramic glass roof, M specific kidney grille, mirror caps, and aerodynamic elements, privacy glass, rear window blinds, M Sport Pro package, M brakes, M seatbelts, and M Shadowline content (including a heated steering wheel, front seat ventilation and rear outboard seat heating).

The model also adds a premium 15-speaker/750-watt Harman Kardon audio system.

Optionally, the X3 range includes myriad metallic and Individual paint options (most of which are standard on the M50 xDrive), with package alternatives restricted to the ‘lesser’ 20 xDrive.

Available for the X3 20 xDrive is the Enhancement Package ($6000) and including metallic paint, an alarm system, panoramic glass sunroof, and Harman Kardon surround sound; Comfort Package ($4000) including second-row seat heating, rear window blinds, front seat ventilation, privacy glass, and luggage compartment net; and M Sport Pro Package ($3000) with high-gloss Shadowline trim details, M Sport brakes and M seatbelts.

A 2200kg tow kit is available for $2200 on each variant.
