Recalls for Audi A4, VW beetle, Chrysler Grand Voyager

AUDI is recalling 6716 A4s in Australia to rectify a potential airbag controller glitch, Volkswagen is recalling 967 Beetles due to a possible rear suspension problem and Chrysler is recalling a handful Grand Voyagers over an incorrect gross vehicle weight sticker.

Audi A4s of model years 2013, 2014 and 2015 are included in the recall to sort out the potential that front airbags may not inflate correctly in an accident, which would increase the risk of injury to front occupants during a collision.

No incidents have been reported in Australia and owners of affected A4s will be contacted and encouraged to book an appointment with an Audi dealer for their cars 30-minute remedial procedure.

Volkswagen Beetles of model years 2011, 2012 and 2013 are subject to a recall concerning potential for the trailing arm of the rear torsion axle to break as a result of impacts to the car such as a rear-end collision or hitting a kerb.

If the trailing arm is damaged and subsequently breaks, it could in some cases lead to immediate loss of vehicle control and the potential for an accident hazard to the Beetle’s occupants and other road users. There have been no reported cases of this in Australia.

Remedying the problem requires around 90 minutes to fit plates to the suspension. Volkswagen is writing to owners of affected vehicles and invites customers to contact their local dealership or the Volkswagen customer care line on 1800 607 822.

Chrysler’s Grand Voyager recall affects just 11 vehicles built between August 21, 2013 and June 26, 2014, which had an incorrect gross vehicle weight rating sticker applied.
