GSR variant re-joins Mitsubishi Outlander line-up

MITSUBISHI has re-introduced the GSR nameplate to the Outlander line-up for 2024, the variant arriving this month as the flagship of its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) mid-sized SUV range.

 

Priced from $73,790 plus on-road costs, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV GSR becomes the priciest variant in the range, and some $2000 more than the current Exceed Tourer range-topper.

 

The pricey model is characterised by many of the same styling cues found on other GSR variants in the Mitsubishi Motors Australia portfolio, including black exterior garnishing on the fog light bezels, front and rear bumper ‘skid plates’, grille frame, roof rails, wing mirror caps.

 

The model’s 20-inch alloy wheels are also finished in black, as is the O-U-T-L-A-N-D-E-R lettering across the leading edge of the bonnet and tailgate-mounted ‘GSR’ badge.

 

Changes inside the cabin are also limited to appearance with black theming again prevalent.

 

Black upholstery, door cards, gear shift surround, A-pillar covers, and headlining differentiates the model and is punctuated by silver stitch work on the instrument binnacle, door cards, and seats.

 

Otherwise, the GSR is identical to its derivative with identical equipment and safety features – and the same powertrain.

 

Brochure highlights include a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment array, the later hosting a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, and wired Android Auto pairing.

 

The Outlander PHEV GSR is powered by Mitsubishi’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and dual electric motor combination offering up 185kW of power and 450Nm of torque. All electric range is listed at 84km (NEDC) while ADR Combined cycle fuel consumption is a claimed 1.5 litres per 100km.

 

Like all Mitsubishi models sold in Australia, the Outlander is backed by the brand’s 10-year warranty and capped-price servicing program. Four years’ roadside assistance is also included. The PHEV drive battery is warranted for eight years or 160,000km (such that it retains 66 per cent of its useable energy capacity over that period).
